Artist and Author
Carryl Postma, (nee Wagg), is a transplanted Torontonian, who opted to settle in the calmer, pastoral Region of Quinte roughly three decades ago. She was practically born with her hand grasping a paintbrush, and has generally gravitated to watercolour, although she also works in acrylics and pen. Fairly recently, Carryl became the published author of a self-illustrated, ecological children's book...."The Tree That Could Be Green". She is also the incumbent membership co-ordinator of "Arts Quinte West". Over the years, Carryl has participated in plethora Ontario art shows. Some of her work is currently displayed in the city hall of Quinte West, but her extensive collection is best viewed at her Trenton studio, "Artish Fine Art Studio" (see map below). Varied subject matter can be seen here including lovely works depicting historical architecture, floral etc. www.thetreethatcouldbegreen.synthasite.com
Artist's Statement
“Layering Through Realism”
I have always been fascinated by the versatility of watercolor. Utilizing dozens of layers in a non-traditional approach, my work achieves a look of realism. Inspired by a love of photography, each painting is a rendition of that “perfect shot”.
When my artistic soul cries out for less disciplined pieces, i express myself in acrylic abstracts. These textured paintings reflect my life and the succession of my creative evolution. My latest piece hangs in “Polish”, an upscale day spa located in Belleville, Ontario.
Wanting to make a difference in the world! I wrote and illustrated a published children’s picture book entitled “ the tree that could be green”! Proudly, I have utilized this project to donate money to dozens of charities.
My inspiration stems from all aspects of human emotion in relation to life!
Yours in art
